Welcome Proofreaders

From Linguistic Team International Wiki

Proofreading ensures the high quality of our videos, websites and educational material. Proofreaders have a fluent knowledge of English and a good mastery of their own language. They can detect and correct erroneous translations and typos, as well as spelling, grammar and punctuation errors.

  2. Introduce yourself and indicate your language proficiency and other details about yourself.

For proofreading in English, go to the Active Projects Forum. This is the master list of videos open for proofreading, with one thread for each of them. For proofreading in another language, go to your language Proofreading Team Forum.

Before you start proofreading videos, please read this carefully

  • Minimum display time for a subtitle: 1.5 seconds per line and at least 2 seconds for 2 lines if possible.
  • Maximum length for a subtitle string is about 75 characters (including spaces). It can be on two lines.
  • The absolute maximum for a TV screen is 84 characters on 2 lines of 42 each.
  • Consider the grammatical structure of the sentences when determining the transition point from one string to the next one.
  • String breaks should fall on natural pauses and very rarely should two sentences be in the same string.

After you finish proofreading a video

  • Do NOT mark the translation proofreading as finished in dotSUB, as this would block further proofreading and time stamp adjustment.
  • Open the video thread in your language Proofreading Team Forum and indicate in a new post that you finished translating it.
  • The video will then go through a final phase of time stamping and review before reaching its repository location for sharing with all.
